IT ALL STARTED WHEN…
Hardships can be catalysts. After the Northern California wildfires, I retired from 30 years of teaching. Working to rebuild, I spent time observing nature’s healing process. I began thinning the oak woodlands, a practice of fire prevention and one way the Indigenous Wappo people have tended the land for millennia.
Inspired by local flower farmers and wholesalers, I started Hundred Acre Greenery as a means to bring locally grown materials into the floral market. Reducing fire fuel and decreasing the carbon footprint within the hospitality and floral industry are both motivating and a felt responsibilities for me. On walks along Washington Creek at my Petaluma home, I found riparian and field foliage and gasses, and started creating dried arrangements year round. Learning that the beauty and diversity of our local plant life can provide sustainable harvests filling needs of our floristry market right here was mind shifting. In 2019 Hundred Acre Greenery and Florals & Decor by Julia merged as a full service operation.
